Welcome to the Maine Puzzle Guy's Site!

A new hobby is born!

On Father's Day (2009), I received the gift of a scroll saw - something I've wanted for a long time!   Since then our basement workshop has been covered in an ever-deepening layer of fine sawdust...and the odor of wood stains and polyurethane. And I'm having the time of my life!

Production began with the loan of one book from our Community Library, the purchase of some higher quality blades than those included with the new saw, then a mixed supply of high-grade sawn wood from local sources. From there the new pastime evolved into days filled with nearly pure happiness!

I created 26 puzzles and fretwork wall "plates" during the next couple of weeks, and displayed them all at a summer library book/craft sale...and actually sold a few!  Encouraged, I expanded the offerings to nearly 60 pieces and quickly sold half of them at our community school's 6-hour holiday craft fair. It was incredible! We were swamped with holiday shoppers young and old.

The offerings now approach 170 different pieces. Sales at various local craft fairs during 2010 - and more than a few special orders, have kept me busier than I've been in a long time...with new puzzles and plates being added all the time.

Here on the following pages are photos, descriptions and the prices I've asked for the most popular pieces. Many more will follow (more sawdust!).  At the outset of this new pastime, I'd planned to add pictures and details of some new items: garden whirligigs and several fantastic wooden toys and gizmos from out of the past. Sadly, it doesn't appear that's going to happen. Too busy with puzzles and fretwork!

We both hope you enjoy viewing our offerings...and would be pleased to hear from you!
